Welcome Career Success Partners! Explore our curated resources designed to support your students' career success. Our vision is to create a community of engaged professionals who help every student prepare for a lifetime of opportunities. This page is curated based on feedback from you and others, focusing on the most frequently asked questions about career development.

Partner Resources

It's never too early or too late for students to begin their career journey. Encourage them to start exploring our resources today. Early in their academic journey, the Career Studio is an excellent place for general orientation and guidance. Our Career Fairs and expos are another great way for students to start their relationship with Career Success. At the bottom of this page, we have a list of all the Career Fairs and Expos we will be hosting this year.

 
Career Studio - Drop-in services available any ASC student. The Career Studio provides resume reviews, profile photos, job and internship search assistance, cover letter help, and career coaching appointment scheduling.

Handshake - Handshake connects students to coaching, career development resources, career-related events, fairs, employers and jobs, internships and other career-building opportunities. What's more, by creating a strong Handshake profile and using the platform regularly, students can optimize the algorithm , helping to ensure that Handshake presents them with increasingly relevant content. Unsure how to create a strong Handshake profile? The Career Studio is the perfect place to start!

Career Fairs -  Our Career Fairs and Expos connect students with employers from a wide range of industries and fields.

ASC instructors can enhance their teaching with our Carmen Instructor Modules—a resource designed to support course development and instructional strategies.

Help students explore potential career paths with their chosen major. Use Focus 2 for self and career exploration, and What Can I Do With This Major for a broad range of opportunities. Set up a career coaching appointment for personalized guidance. We also recommend you refer to your department's alumni page for additional insights. If you need help creating an alumni page, our grant program could support this initiative. Schedule with a Career Coach - Our Career Coaches offer support and advice to students as they embark on their career journey.

Searching: Ensure students complete their Handshake profile for better job matching. The Career Studio offers a great starting point, and advisors can also recommend career coaching appointments and attending career fairs and events to expand their network. We have provided a list of Career Fairs at the bottom of the page.

Applying: Encourage students to utilize the Career Studio for resume and cover letter reviews. They can also use Big Interview for content and AI feedback. Career coaching appointments are available to refine their application materials. Don’t forget the Career Accelerator Fund for funding opportunities.

Big Interview - Big Interview is an online system that combines training AND practice to help improve your interview technique and build your confidence.

Career Accelerator Fund - With awards up to $5,000, the Career Accelerator Fund is designed to open doors to invaluable professional opportunities, empowering your growth and enhancing your career trajectory.

The College of Arts and Sciences Center for Career and Professional Success is pleased to announce the release of 4 new career development courses designed to help students map out career plans, prepare for internships, build professional skills, and work directly with industry and alumni partners. ARTSSCI 2000: Designing Your Career Experience

Are you unsure about whether an internship is right for you? Do you know how to find career-building opportunities (like internships) that align with your values and goals? Are you considering graduate school, but not sure how to prepare? This course provides you with practical tools, resources, and strategies to get the most out of any career-building opportunity.

 

ARTSSCI 3000: Designing Your Life After College

  • Days: Mondays, Wednesdays
  • Time: 3:00 – 3:55 pm

  • Enrollment Cap: 25 (Open to 2nd, 3rd and 4th-year students.)

Could you use help creating a thoughtful career plan? This course connects you directly with career resources, tools, and mentors, and helps you identify the skills or experiences you need to be competitive in the world of work. You will complete a micro-internship, industry-specific course, or certification that will give you the competitive edge you need to break into your field of interest.

 

ARTSSCI 4000: Designing Your Career Launch

  • Credits: 2
  • Instructors: Scott Kustis & Barbara Harvey
  • Days: Tuesdays, Thursdays
  • Time: 4:10 – 5:05 pm
  • Location: Derby 049
  • Enrollment Cap: 25 (Seniors only.)

This course prepares you for your post-graduate career by offering real-world experience while still in college. You’ll work directly with industry partners to develop solutions to real challenges, building employer confidence in your professional potential. By the end, you'll have a comprehensive industry project to showcase on your resume, cover letter, and in interviews. If you've taken other career development courses, this one will push you further by refining your career materials with insights from mentors, faculty, and peers. The instructor will tailor content to your career journey, with alternative assignments available as needed.

NAVIGATING CAREER FAIRS

Students and employers interacting at the Spring Career Fair

As your students work on polishing their resumes in preparation for a Career Fair, recommend they schedule a Zoom appointment with a Career Coach who can assist them with their resume as well as address any questions that they may have about attending a career fair. They can also access our collection of tip sheets. If your students struggle with being concise when discussing their work history, recommend they read the Writing Your Elevator Pitch document and consider practicing their pitch with a Career Coach.
