The Center for Career Success at The Ohio State University is excited to announce that David Barnes is joining the team as a Senior Career Counselor specializing in career development. David brings a wealth of experience and a passion for student success that has shaped his career in higher education.

Before joining Career Success, David was the Assistant Director for Choose Ohio First, a STEM scholarship program administered by the Ohio Department of Higher Education. In that role, he oversaw events, managed stakeholder relationships, and led program improvement initiatives to support student success across the state. Additionally, David has served as an academic coach at the University of Akron and worked in various roles at The Ohio State University, including positions in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

In his new role at Career Success, David works as a Senior Career Counselor on the Career Development team. He collaborates closely with the Industry Connections team to help students prepare for their careers and connect them with valuable resources and opportunities. David is dedicated to empowering students to take ownership of their career paths and is eager to foster strong relationships with partners to enhance Career Success programming.

David is passionate about helping students by actively listening to their unique stories, staying informed on industry trends, and tailoring his guidance to meet their individual needs. He aims to provide students with relevant information and resources that inspire confidence and clarity as they make career decisions.

Outside of work, David is passionate about music and enjoys singing R&B, gospel, and classical music. He also has a deep interest in wellness and personal growth, which fuels his commitment to helping students as they prepare for their future careers.

David Barnes’ addition to the Center for Career Success reflects Ohio State’s continued dedication to providing comprehensive support for students as they pursue their professional aspirations.
