How the Career Courses can aide in your Career Journey
If you’ve ever felt unsure about your next step in your career journey, ASC Career Success is here to help. Career Success offers three courses designed to help students build confidence, explore career options, and learn how to communicate their professional skills effectively to employers and graduate programs. Each course is designed for a different stage of the college experience and offers practical next steps for advancing professionally.
ARTSSCI 2000: Designing Your Career
This course is ideal for first-, second-, and third-year students who are exploring what experiences will help them achieve professional success. Whether that's internships, campus involvement, or research, students will leave this class with a strong sense of their interests, values, and career goals, along with a plan to put them into action.
ARTSSCI 3000: Designing Your Life After College
This course helps students turn their goals into reality. Working alongside career advisors, students develop a plan that connects their skills and interests to future careers through hands-on experience like a micro-internship, certification, or industry-specific course. These experiences provide the competitive edge needed to break into their chosen field.
One student who previously took the course recently became the top candidate for a research assistant position and shared that the hiring committee specifically commented on the strength of their application. The student explained that their “resume and cover letter would not be nearly as polished” without this course. They also noted how helpful the practice interviews and interview recordings were to her job application process.
ARTSSCI 4000: Designing Your Career Launch
Designed for seniors, this course prepares students for their post-graduation careers through direct collaboration with industry partners on real-world challenges while still in college. Students complete a comprehensive industry project that demonstrates their abilities to employers, while also refining and tailoring their resumes, cover letters, and interview skills.
Each course meets students where they are in their career development and connects classroom learning with real-world experience. Together, they help students build professional skills that extend beyond graduation and into the workforce.
