And you don’t have to go to law school! Have we piqued your interest?     Valerie Moore of Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP will share insider knowledge about the roles of a scientific advisor and a patent agent in both a law firm and a corporation, offering insights into these non-traditional STEM career paths, dispelling myths about requirements, and more.     Valerie is a registered patent agent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. She practices in the Vorys Houston and Orange County office and has over a decade of domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution experience. She has drafted, filed, and prosecuted numerous patent applications in a wide variety of technology areas including sensors, cosmetics, consumer goods, oil and gas exploration and production, wellbore and mining tools, renewable energy, catalytic chemistry, nanoparticles and nanomaterials, composite materials, metallurgy, molecular and nano-based bioimaging agents, medical implants, batteries, software, and mathematical modeling of data. She has managed several global patent portfolios, including a consumer product portfolio containing approximately 100 matters. Additionally, Valerie also supports attorneys in transactional intellectual property matters like contracts and opinions as well as due diligence matters for mergers and acquisitions. Valerie previously worked in research and administration at Rice University, institutions in the Texas Medical Center and contractors for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Johnson Space Center. She earned her bachelor’s degree in chemistry with a minor in mathematics from Centenary College of Louisiana and her master’s degree and Ph.D. in chemistry from Rice University..     Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP provides business and legal counsel to clients throughout the United States and around the world.
