Top Five Tips for Prepping for Your Post-Grad Career
At Career Success, we make it a priority to prepare students for their post-graduation careers. Here are
some of our tips and best practices we offer and recommend for finding success in the job market and
transitioning to life after college.
Tip 1: Start The Process Early!
You don’t have to wait until you are a senior to start thinking about your life and career post-graduation.
In fact, your career-readiness journey can start during your freshman year, whether that is crafting your
resume, applying for internships, or finding research opportunities. Career Success even offers Career
Courses, a selection of classes that meet students at any point in their career journey and provide
practical resources, industry-specific experiences, and actionable skills needed for any future career building opportunity.
Tip 2: Visit the Career Studio for Drop-In Resume Review
Resumes are one of the first points of contact between employers and applicants. The peer career
coaches at our Career Studio offer free, drop-in resume reviews for all arts and sciences students.
Located on the first floor of Denney Hall, the studio also offers student headshot services, cover letter
reviews, navigation help for LinkedIn and Handshake, and answers to any career questions and
concerns. The Career Studio is open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Fridays from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tip 3: Attend Career Fairs, Info Sessions, and Company Office Hours
Beyond the Career Studio, Career Success also hosts an array of opportunities for students to attend
throughout the year, including Career Fairs, Career Treks and Immersions, and Info Sessions and
Company Office Hours. At these events, students have the chance to network with employers and
alumni, explore paths aligned with career interests, and gain experience in real-world work
environments.
Tip 4: Schedule a Career Coaching Appointment with a Pro Coach on Handshake
Career Coaching appointments provide one-on-one support for students looking to explore potential
career paths, set specific goals and create measurable action plans, or identify areas of challenge or
needing more exploration. Our pro coaches are deeply familiar with proven career tools and coaching
techniques and each have specialized knowledge of one or more industry areas. Students must sign up
for pro coach appointments via Handshake and can choose to meet with a pro coach in person at the
Career Studio or virtually on Zoom.
Tip 5: Check out the Career Success Website for Post-Grad Career Resources
Beyond support through coaching, Career Success also offers various free career resources on our
website. Students can access a collection of general and major-based resume templates, guides and tip
sheets for job search and interviews, access to complimentary services like Big Interview, and additional
resources like action verbs to use in resumes.

graduation. We are here to offer help at any stage of your career path and prioritize meeting you where
